Repair Stand Clamping: Check the Bicycle Manufacturer’s Instructions
Frame material alone does not establish a safe clamping method
Use the bicycle manufacturer's approved support points and the instructions for the exact repair stand. Do not assume a steel frame cannot be damaged, or that a clamp opening that fits a carbon tube makes that tube an approved clamping point.
Confirm where the bicycle can be held
Park Tool's repair-stand instructions direct users to the bicycle manufacturer for recommended clamping locations and advise cleaning the contact surfaces. This is general handling guidance, not a specification or compatibility approval for the stands sold here.
Check the stand's own limits
Our floor-standing bike repair stand lists a 30 kg maximum load and a 25–40 mm clamp range. Our bench mount lists a 20 kg maximum load and a 30–75 mm clamp range. Neither range replaces the bicycle manufacturer's permission to clamp a particular component.
Prepare the work area
Assemble and secure the stand as directed on a suitable surface. Inspect its jaws, locking mechanisms and fasteners before use. Keep cables and fragile components clear of contact points, and support the bicycle while securing or releasing it.
Avoid a generic clamp-pressure setting
Do not copy a pressure or torque value from an unrelated stand or bicycle. Follow the instructions for the equipment you have. If the correct support point or method is uncertain, ask the bicycle manufacturer or a competent bicycle mechanic before clamping.
Check before working
Confirm the bicycle is supported within the stand's instructions before beginning maintenance. Remove the bicycle before adjustments that require it, and stop if the stand or bicycle moves unexpectedly.
Choose using the full specification
Compare the bicycle's complete weight and approved support points with the selected stand. Contact us for the listed stand dimensions and features before you purchase.
