Installing a Bike Wall Hook: Check the Wall, Fixings and Load
Choose the fixing system before the position
A wall hook is only one part of a bike-storage installation. The wall structure, fasteners, fixing positions and bicycle weight all matter. A hook's stated capacity does not establish what an unspecified wall or anchor can support.
Read the instructions supplied with the exact rack. Confirm the approved wall materials and fasteners before drilling. Do not assume plasterboard alone is a suitable mounting surface, or replace specified structural fixings with general-purpose wall plugs.
Measure the complete bicycle
Check the bicycle's weight with the accessories that will remain attached. Consider the lifting space, wheel size and the position of handlebars and pedals. Check whether the bicycle manufacturer permits the intended hanging position, especially for specialist wheels or frames.
Match the rack to the space

Check the supporting wall
Identify the wall construction and the structural mounting points required by the rack instructions. If you cannot establish a suitable fixing arrangement, have a competent installer assess it. In rented accommodation, obtain the permission required for drilling or permanent fixings.
Install and inspect
Use the specified fasteners and installation method. Keep the bike supported while checking the installation, and inspect for movement or damage before each use. Stop using a rack if its fasteners loosen or its supporting surface deteriorates.
Consider a floor stand
When the wall cannot be confirmed suitable, compare a freestanding bike stand. Check tyre clearance, bicycle compatibility and available floor space before choosing one.
